I dug this grave myself
I jumped into the pit.
With joy, I bet against myself,
For this was as good as it would get.
I could say their words burned and stung.
I could say I danced on puppet strings.
I tasted blood as I bit my tongue
And fell down the spiral’s rings.
Ambition left me empty,
Support left me broken.
I dropped my dreams into the sea
With wishes never spoken.
I turned away from effort and looked Failure in the face
I decided to win my bet, and gladly lost the race.
